World-Class HSE Performance in China: Nanjing Celanese Project achieves 9M safe hours

WorleyParsons is very pleased to announce that the Nanjing Celanese Project for Celanese (Nanjing) Chemical Co., Ltd, in the Nanjing Chemical industry Park, Jiangshu Province, China, has achieved 9,097,985 safe working hours without an LWC. This is a major achievement and one that the MaisonWorleyParsons Team in China is deservedly proud of. The 9m milestone has been the effort of 45 months of hard work of all site members. The project is the largest reimbursable EPCM project for MaisonWorleyParsons in China.

The first piling broke ground in September, 2004 and had peak manpower of just under 2800 people. The project includes five units, producing 600,000 TPA of Acetic Acid, 60,000 TPA Emulsion, 100,000 TPA Acetic Anhydride, 300,000 TPA Vinyl Acetate Monomer and 20,000 TPA UHMW-PE. MaisonWorleyParsonsscope of work includes BEP, DEP, Local Authority liaison, Project Management, Procurement, Construction Management and Completions.

The project site, with an integrated HSE team set up, established a comprehensive HSE program. Project top management was proactively involved in ‘weekly management safety walk-aboutand intervened if any unsafe condition or unsafe action was found. Projects included a comprehensive HSE policy and incentive plan. In addition to safety induction, extensive safety training was delivered to all workers in order to control high risk activities such as “working at height A ’zero tolerancepolicy was implemented and proved to be highly effective. Also, implemented was a ‘scoring systemto assess subcontractorsperformance every month; poor performers would be put onto a black list which will be associated with cooperation assessments on future projects. By doing so we ensure that each subcontractor willingly assumes the responsibility of being compliant with all applicable safety/health rules, regulations, procedures/standards and others, as applicable.

This achievement represents the consistent commitment from all levels of MaisonWorleyParsonsmanagement and the involvement of each individual. World class safety records are the combined achievement of everyone working towards consistent goals!

5M safe man hours celebaration on Celanese Nanjing projects

Nanjing Celanese Projects achieved 5 million safe working man hours without LTI on May 31, 2007. A great celebration was organized for recognition of excellent safety performance by the site staff at 9:30AM on June 8th. During the ceremony, safety medals were awarded to subcontractors, good safety performers got 100RMB prize, and a lucky draw was hold for all site members.
Celanese (Nanjing) Chemical Co., Ltd is erecting a world-scale plant located at the Nanjing Chemical industry Park. Annual capacity of the facility is 600,000 tons of Acetic acid and downstream products of VAE, VAM, Acetic Anhydride and GUR. The 5M man hours milestone has been the effort of 1203 days of hard work of all site members.
From the very start of project, MWP has been focused on elimination of accidents within site work force as top priority. Project management are proactively involved in 'weekly management safety walk abuts' and intervene on any unsafe condition or unsafe action. All of the projects carried out HSE policy and incentive plan; In addition to safety induction, extensive safety training is delivered to all workers; In order to control high risk activity-working at height ,'zero tolerance ' policy has been implemented and has proven to be effective. Also, we implemented a 'scoring system' to assess subcontractor's performance every month. Poor performers will be put into a black list which will be associated with MWP cooperation assessment in future projects. By doing so we ensure that each subcontractor willingly assumes the responsibility of being in compliance with all applicable safety/health rules, regulations, procedures/standards and others as applicable.
The Nanjing project team is confident that 'zero harm'—our utmost goal can be achieved if all those involved will make the commitment to the safety effort by giving their full support and cooperation. 8 million safe working hours without LTI will be our next Goal.
