Maison Engineers & Constructors (MEC) and Worley Group have recently formed a 50/50 JV in China to provide a more powerful and enhanced organization to better serve our joint and respective clients. The new JV which is effective July 1st, 2004, will be called Maison Worley.
MEC with offices in Beijing and Shanghai, is one of the fastest growing China based EPCM contractor and has within the last five (5) years grown to an in-country organization of over 350+ local management and technical personnel. MEC's client base, which to date has focused on international chemical and industrial companies reads like a Who's Who in the chemical and industrial sectors with clients such as Degussa, Eastman Chemical, Ashland Chemical, BOC, Celanese, Dupont, Ferro, GE, Calgon Carbon, R&H, Almatis, Kraft/Nabisco, P&G and Motorola to name a few.
MEC has developed their organization by focusing on excellent project execution, good management systems, strong local resources and an excellent construction safety record. MEC President Mike Silva stated "MEC has always been customer focused and this JV ( Maison Worley ) will enable our new group to provide our clients with an even stronger organization, additional skilled resources and the flexibility to manage larger projects. MEC's core strategy (proactive, flexible and competitive management) will not change and the existing management is still in place and committed to delivering our clients consistent quality while focusing on customer satisfaction".
Worley, a major international EPCM contractor, also has a proven track record in China with companies such as CNOOC, COOEC, CNPC, Kerr McGee, ConocoPhillips and Apache. They will also open up new markets to the JV such as oil & gas, minerals & metals, power, terminals and pipelines. Worley with offices in over 17 countries has a staff of over 5000+ personnel in Australia, SE Asia, North America and the Middle East. Worley last year had revenues of approximately AUD 500 million and a strong balance sheet. John Grill, Worley Group's CEO stated, "China is a key market in our continued growth strategy and MEC is the type of company that will help us achieve our growth targets and provide continued quality service to our domestic and foreign clients in China.
